BABIES!

I saw the movie Babies last night...finally! Ashley and I wanted to see it before it even came out, but just never got our schedules to match up. But Liz and her friends were seeing it and invited me along, not knowing how much I had been wanting to see it, or how I had been planning to go see it alone if nothing else.

The documentary follows the lives, from late-pregnancy to birth and through their first years, of four babies from all over the world: San Francisco, CA, Tokyo, Mongolia and Namibia. Almost silent, the film offers no details other than the ones that are observed oneself...

"Everyone loves babies," reads the poster subtitle. Judging from the viewers in the theatre, and personal experience, that can be said for most people....especially when the babies are smiling and adorable...and are seen only from afar and as intangible.

The mostly-women-filled theatre was flooded with 'ooohs' and 'ahhhhs,' giggles and chatter over all the silly things the babies encountered: their first smiles, the way they interacted with the animals and other children around them, their first attempts at walking and ultimately falling. It felt as though we were with them through their trials and adventures.

It was very interesting
